Blaming the Victims - The Dominant Media Vilify Hamas

advertisement

In his article Mr Lendman analyzes the different ways in which information is misrepresented and twisted to demonize Hamas and thus justify the atrocities that are being committed in Gaza.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Blaming the Victim is a recurrent tactic used by Psychopaths and Sociopaths. Interesting that major media heads are doing it, speaks volumes really as to who is pulling their strings.

Blaming the guilty is more like it.  What speaks volumes to me is how so many Americans can side with Hamas which like Al Qaeda is considered a major terrorist organization by Canada, the European Union, Japan and the United States of America!  The Hamas regime has equaled the Bush administration for its incompetence and irresponsibility toward its citizens on its own scale.  Bush sent 4,000 troops to their death needlessly.  Hamas has caused the deaths of over 400 of its citizens, so many of them children needlessly.  Not even Bush has done that.

Information being twisted and misrepresented?  How can you twist or misrepresent the fact that Hamas attacked Israel launching rockets non stop which provoked longsuffering Israel to an aggressive defense of overwhelming force to dissuade any such attacks in future?  Hamas' foolish stupidity is at fault.  They were elected to improve the lives of the Gazans.  That was their sole responsibility.  We see how well they failed.

What would the United States have done in Israel's place?  To blame the victims in this case is to blame the sovereign State of Israel for being attacked.  That's like blaming the US for Pearl Harbor or the 9/11.   Reverend Wright was villified for that.  It is hypocrisy.

Uhm did you read the article? It lays out an argument very clearly, shredding what you just wrote. I actually feel a little embarassed for you.

Please continue to feel embarrassed for me for as long as you like.  Because there is no amount of sophistry or rhetoric that can change the fact that Hamas provoked this response from Israel.  Nor can any argument change the fact that Hamas, like other similar Islamic terrorists organizations, will never accept the State of Israel.

When an article will acknowlege those truths or refute them on behalf of Hamas, it will be worth reading.

"He's just doing his job"  -atonhunter

What job is that,  AtonHunter?    If Hamas had not launched rockets into Israel and was then the recipient of Israeli aggression, I would defend Hamas and decry Israel.   However, since the reverse is the case, honesty and truth lead me to justify Israel and condemn Hamas.  You don't have to pay me to see the truth.  I have eyes of my own

Atonhunter, maybe you should get a job!  'Because an idle mind is the devil's plaything.'

Will do, because it's obvious you didn't read the article. The article doesn't contain 'sophistry or rhetoric', it contains facts that show Israel is the aggressor, and a violent one at that. I'm not saying Hamas is guilt-less, only that Israel, as the occupier and nuclear/techological superior, has the onus to make some concessions to resolve this peacefully.

Since we have psychopaths running the Israeli Gov't & Military as well as running Hamas the bloodletting will continue until people wake up.

"Will do, because it's obvious you didn't read the article." Cyregray,

If you have the time, while you're at it, you might as well also feel embarrassed for me for not watching Fox News, or listening to Rush Limbaugh, nor voting for George W Bush, twice.

I'm glad to hear that you don't hold Hamas completely blameless in this.   As much as I feel for the Palestinians in  their plight, two things stand out.  One is the Fatah Party has declared that it would live side by side recognizing the State of Israel.  Fatah has not 'suicidally' lobbed rockets at Israel, and it enjoying a measure of autonomy and peace and prosperity in the West Bank.  Secondly, Hamas has said it can NEVER accept the State of Israel, or "the Zionist regime".  There is no amount of "concessions" on the part of Israel that will permanently resolve this.  Hamas needs to 'concede' its determination to wipe Israel off the face of the earth before there will be a real lasting permanent resolution.

If you can think of a way to change Hamas' anti Israel orientation, I'd love to hear it.

"Psychopaths" would more appropriately describe the failed government in Gaza, that would pick a fight with "nuclear/technologically superior" Israel.  That is almost equivalent to us wantonly picking a fight with China, Iran, or North Korea.  "Oh yeah, that would make sense."

No, that's conversive thinking. Maybe this whole 'newsvine' thing is new to you, but the POINT is to share articles and then discuss them. You obviously have no interest in that so - why are you here?

Hamas is not the people of Gaza, and it's been demonstrated to be under Israeli influence.

So again - WHO is launching these rockets? Because it definitely is NOT the people of gaza, the CHILDREN of gaza. 1,000 Dead Children from Israeli Weapons INCLUDING white phosphorus.

"Psychopaths" would more appropriately describe the failed government in Gaza, that would pick a fight with "nuclear/technologically superior" Israel.  That is almost equivalent to us wantonly picking a fight with China, Iran, or North Korea.  "Oh yeah, that would make sense."

Read this and then tell me that. You obviously have little grasp of the concept.

Cyregray,

"No, that's conversive thinking."  Thank you for noticing.

"this whole 'newsvine' thing ... the POINT is to share articles and then discuss them."

What's the problem?  You shared the article and now we are discussing.

"so - why are you here?"

This is an existential question, which I know you would agree, is far beyond the purview of your article.

"Hamas is not the people of Gaza,"   Hamas leaders are not Gazans or Palestinians?  Does Hamas know that?  Why haven't the people of Gaza rebelled or complained about Hamas not representing them or even being ethnically Palestinian or Gazan?

"and it's been demonstrated to be under Israeli influence."

That must be why Hamas was created by the Muslim Brotherhood during the First Intifada with the stated goal of the destruction of Israel and replacement of it with an Islamic Palestinian state.  From those facts, the Israeli influence over Hamas is clearly unmistakable.  "I don't why I never saw that before.   The State of Israel is using Hamas to destroy Israel.  Yeah, that's logical.  Right? ? ? "

Why anyone would believe the words of terrorists, or trust the word of one infamous terrorist leader against a rival terrorist organization, may seen completely reasonable to you.  The word of the deceased Yasser Arafat is on a par with that of Khaled Mashaal,  Ayman al Zawahiri or Osama bin Laden.

"So again - WHO is launching these rockets?"  It is this a multiple choice question?

a) Hamas,   b)  Gazans,  c) Palestinians,   d)  Ponerologists,  e) the United States

Ponerologists is tempting, but  I have to go with Hamas.  Yes, Hamas is responsible.  Final answer.

It is the elected government of Gaza.  If the Gazans were deceived by Hamas,  they are suffering the egregious consequences.  As we had to suffer the tragic consequences of Bush being president for 8 yrs.  If Hamas was or were at any time under Israeli influence, why no other Arab or Muslim government has condemned or  even provided corroboration against Hamas, and why Arab and Muslim governments continue supporting Hamas whose stated goal of destroying Israel, makes even the remotest possibility of collusion between Israel and Hamas utter absurdity.  Or in the jargon of this your article, and in my opinion "a completely psychotic political delusion".

Hamas provoked this attack from Israel?  I think that you sir (or ma'am) are a victim of the western propaganda machine.  How about Israel's provocations?  Like the tunnel raid that Israel carried out on November 4th, 2008.  This was done the day Obama got elected into office, but surely it was a coincidence (just like it's coincidence that Israel carried out this brutal offensive a month before their elections).

Was that proof enough for you? No? How about how Israel refused to remove the blockade like it was supposed to according to the cease fire?  The truth is Hamas followed the guidlines of the truce more than Israel did.
